While Yoshida Machiju Beer Garden invites you to freewheeling outdoor celebrations in late spring and midsummer evenings, Yoshidamachi welcomes you in late autumn to the full-day “Yoshida Machiju Halloween Party”.

Again, the street is turned into a party zone. Staff dressed in wild and unique Halloween costumes serve food and drinks from some 40 food stalls.

As the sun goes down, Halloween lanterns light up the main street, creating the mysterious ambience of the joyful party filled with live performances on a special stage and the highlight event, the Halloween Parade, jointly organized by the neighboring district of Nogecho.

Yoshidamachi Art & Jazz Festival

In late April every year, the main area of Yoshidamachi is cleared for the entire afternoon and evening for a street event titled “Yoshidamachi Art & Jazz Festival”.
Under the slogan “Make art more lighthearted and accessible”, various art-related programs are organized every year, including art workshops for children and a street market with 80 or more artists who exhibit their original works for sale or trade.

The event also features live sessions performed mainly by local jazz musicians and occasionally by blues bands that enrich the cultural life in Yokohama night after night. Come and indulge in their sophisticated musical conversations and be mesmerized by their kaleidoscopic world of spontaneous improvisations.

Every year on May 3rd (public holiday), and on Saturdays in late July and late August, traffic is banned during the evening hours from Yoshidamachi Hon-dori, the main street, and it is magically transformed into the “Yoshida Machiju Beer Garden”.

Residents and visitors fill the tables, toasting friends and enjoying plates of mouth-watering dishes they choose from some 40 stalls that line the sidewalks.

Live music is performed by artists and groups of all genres, from blues to Japanese wadaiko drums. Street performers keep it lively—they could be exotic belly dancers or glamorous pole dancers, depending on the night.

Come join this free-style street party and experience just how much better that beer tastes in the middle of a wide-open street on a carefree late spring holiday or lazy summer evening while watching the sky turn from blue to orange to pitch black!

Osannomiya Fall Festival (Hie Jinja Reitaisai)

In mid-September every year, Hie Shrine hosts a mikoshi (portable shrine) festival to pay tribute to the soul of Osan, the legendary apprentice of Kanbei Yoshida who, as a sign of appreciation and eternal loyalty to his master, allegedly threw himself into the waters to become a human pillar, hoping to help accelerate the completion of the land reclamation project that was suffering from numerous delays.

In odd years, 40 large and small mikoshis are paraded from the shrine to the nearby Isezaki Mall (Isezakicho), through the street of Yoshidamachi, and then back by roaring high-spirited members of various neighborhood associations in the area.
